John Bowie – The recent Crusaders’ crusade to South Africa, that Godless country of race-based infamy, has lead to the lofty elevation of employment lawyer Steph Dyhrberg, now variously and almost relentlessly described as the “prominent lawyer”, “leading lawyer”, “top lawyer” and even as a Queen’s Counsel by Newshub.

Now Ms Dyhrberg is certainly more than able to comfortably wear most of those descriptives, but the deferential esteem of the media and the Crusaders’ management is, we suspect, due as much to the former’s typical elevation of matters regardless of importance and the latter’s attempts to assure the concerned world that the bum-pinching and alleged limp wristing carry-on in South Africa is well and truly safe in Ms Dyhrberg’s capable hands.

Maybe the confusion comes from Marie Dyhrberg QC, but as the lawyer charged with handling NZ Rugby’s 0800 ‘dial a complaint’ service, Steph Dyhrberg must surely have her hands full.

And now, it would appear, would be a good time for Steph Dyhrberg to start preparing her application to take silk, riding the wave the Crusaders’ outrages, perpetrated not on any crusading fields of gold, but within the golden arches of McDonalds. That’s classy.

She has already shown her ability to morph from an outspoken voice in the #Metoo movement to now dealing with one of the hot spots for Metoo melting moments: the banal banter from the rugby locker rooms, seasoned with a bit of old-fashioned homophobia.

  1. Steph Dyhrberg

Please correct the spelling of my surname the first time and it’s Marie, not Maria. Otherwise, looks spot on.
    Regards
    Steph not QC
