PHOENIX (LAWFUEL) – The United States has reached a settlement with three Tucson cardiologists, Richard A. Cohn, M.D., Lee Goldberg, M.D., and Timothy M. Marshall, M.D. The United States contended that from January 2007 to October 2007, the three cardiologists submitted claims for payment to the Medicare Program in violation of the physician self-referral laws, commonly referred to as the “Stark Law.” According to the government, this resulted in false claims for payment to Medicare. Drs. Cohn, Goldberg, and Marshall agreed to pay $355,000 to settle the matter.
The investigation leading to the settlement was conducted the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, and Robert K. Lu, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona.
