HOUSTON – Jeffrey J. Nichols has moved to Haynes and Boone, LLP as a partner in the firm’s Energy and Power Practice Group in Houston. Mr. Nichols’ practice will focus on structured energy transactions for oil and gas, and electric power companies as well as financial institutions.
“Jeff brings a wealth of knowledge and personal contacts in all facets of the energy business. His prior in-house experience with a major merchant energy firm, in particular, is a good fit with Haynes and Boone’s energy group’s deep experience and expertise,” said Buddy Clark, partner and head of Haynes and Boone’s energy practice. “The combination of Jeff’s experience in structured energy and project finance will prove a valuable asset to our clients.”
Mr. Nichols was previously a Senior Counsel with Dynegy Inc. and most recently a shareholder with Greenberg Traurig, LLP. He has a significant background in the merchant energy industry, handling complex structured transactions involving gas and power, and in project finance, handling construction, operation and maintenance contracts for power plants. Most recently Jeff has been involved in alternative energy projects and has advised clients on the impact of current legislative proposals for regulating carbon emissions.
Licensed in New York and Texas, Mr. Nichols has spent 12 years representing private equity and venture capital funds with mezzanine and non-recourse financings of energy service companies and of energy and power companies with oil and gas development loans.
Mr. Nichols graduated from the University of Michigan and obtained a J.D. and M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University.
