WASHINGTON, D.C., August 20, 2007 – LAWFUEL – The Law Newswire – Winston & Strawn LLP announced today that prominent IP attorney Johnny A. Kumar has joined the Washington, D.C. office as a partner in the litigation practice group. Kumar is a patent litigation, counseling and transactional attorney handling matters in all areas of electronics and computer technologies including district court litigation and licensing and management of domestic and foreign patent portfolios for clients in electrical arts, software and business methods. He has practiced patent law for more than 17 years and previously worked as an engineer for both IBM and General Electric.

Kumar is a former shareholder at Heller Ehrman. Prior to joining Heller, he was a partner in the intellectual property group at Foley & Lardner. He brings extensive expertise in intellectual property counseling, litigation and transactions on behalf of clients in a wide range of industries that include electronics, computer software and hardware, medical devices and electro-mechanical technologies.
Kumar counsels clients on U.S. patent procurement and worldwide management of patent prosecution, patent reissue, reexamination and interference proceedings, patent infringement, validity and clearance options, and patent and trade secret audits and due diligence studies. He also advises clients on patent management issues to develop strategies to realize value from their patents in a particular industry through patent portfolio development, patent mining and patent portfolio licensing.
Kumar earned his juris doctorate, with honors, from George Mason University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree, with highest honors, from the University of Texas.
