Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, one of the world’s leading law firms, today announced it will sponsor a series of four luncheon seminars for in-house counsel on current developments and trends in intellectual property and media law.

The series begins tomorrow, March 16, with the topic “Music Licensing and the New Media.” Each seminar will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Weil Gotshal Conference Center at the firm’s Manhattan headquarters in the General Motors Building at 767 Fifth Avenue.

“The productive use of intellectual property is an essential element of business for our clients in the entertainment, media, pharmaceutical and other sectors,” said R. Bruce Rich, who along with Kenneth L. Steinthal, serves as co-head of the firm’s intellectual property/media practice. “We have custom-tailored the Weil Gotshal lunch series to make our seminars both informative and interesting by focusing on the increasing complexities of the law in this area and the growing demands on in-house counsel,” Rich added.

Steinthal said, “With more than 150 media and intellectual property lawyers around the world, Weil Gotshal’s practice in this area is one of the largest and most successful. We are proud that many of the best-known traditional and new media companies regularly turn to us for comprehensive litigation, counseling and licensing matters.”

At the first seminar, Weil Gotshal partners Steinthal, Jonathan T. Weiss and Adam I. Cohen, who are noted authorities on various aspects of intellectual property law, will provide an overview of current music-rights issues facing new and traditional media companies engaged in the transmission, distribution or use of music.

Remaining seminar topics and dates are “Libel, Privacy and Right of Publicity,” April 13; “IP Pitfalls in Corporate Transactions,” May 11; and “Antitrust Issues in IP and Technology Transactions,” June 15.

Participants will receive 1 to 1.5 CLE credits in professional practice for attending a seminar. For more information, contact Melissa Philips at 212-310-6848.
