The sudden death of highly experienced Christchurch barrister Tim Fournier has left colleagues and family mourning the death of the popular lawyer.
He died on Friday after reportedly being injured in a fall.
Known as both a cheerful and engaging personality, as well as a savvy and successful criminal defence lawyer, Fournier had been involved in numerous high-profile trials including acting as defence counsel for Naatasha Ruffell who was found not guilty over the 2018 stabbing of a man in Invercargill.
New Zealand Law Society Canterbury-Westland branch president Grant Tyrrell said Fournier’s death was very “raw”.
“The Law Society’s thoughts are very much with his family and friends. He is going to be missed … it’s a tragedy that is weighing heavily with the Bar.”
