Jeh Johnson, the former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security and longtime Paul, Weiss partner, is stepping away from the firm to take on a new role as co-chair of Columbia University’s Board of Trustees. This move comes amid a period of upheaval for both the firm and the university.
Johnson’s departure coincides with Paul, Weiss’s recent agreement with the Trump administration. The firm pledged $40 million in pro bono legal services and agreed to review its diversity, equity, and inclusion policies to avoid an executive order that would have restricted its access to government entities.
Columbia University, meanwhile, is facing its own challenges, including significant funding cuts and leadership changes. Johnson’s appointment is seen as a move to bring stability and experienced leadership to the institution during this turbulent time. (Reuters)
In addition to his new role at Columbia, Johnson serves on the boards of MetLife and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. He also hosts “All Things Soul,” a radio show on WBGO, where he shares classic R&B music and commentary.
