NEW YORK, Aug. 3 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP today announced that David N. Kelley, 45, the United States Attorney for the
Southern District of New York (“SDNY”), will join the firm as a senior
litigating partner following his retirement from public service on or about
Labor Day, 2005.

From 2000-2003, David Kelley was Deputy United States Attorney for the
SDNY. Prior to that, he was Assistant U.S. Attorney for the SDNY, and Chief of
the Organized Crime and Terrorism unit from its formation in 1995. From 1993-
1995, he was Deputy Chief of the Organized Crime and Violent Gangs unit. Mr.
Kelley joined the United States Attorney’s Office in 1988.
During his tenure at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mr. Kelley’s involvement
in complex cases included:
* White Collar Crime and Securities Fraud: Under Mr. Kelley, the SDNY
obtained convictions of Martha Stewart in connection with her trades of
Imclone shares, Bernie Ebbers for his role at MCI Worldcom, and John
Rigas for his role at Adelphia. Among other cases, Mr. Kelley also
supervised the indictments of 15 current and former New York Stock
Exchange specialists for abusive and improper trading, former
executives of Royal Ahold’s U.S. Foodservice subsidiary for accounting
fraud and insider trading, and the former chief executive officer and
chief operating officer of Impath Inc. for accounting and securities
fraud.
* International Issues: Indictment of an oil executive and his companies
and foreign associates in connection with the Iraq Oil for Food
investigation.
* Terrorism: Successful prosecution of Ramzi Yousef for his role in
the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. Co-lead prosecutor of
John Walker Lindh. Co-Chair of the Department of Justice’s
investigation into September 11, 2001. Mr. Kelley also led the
investigation of the October 2000 attack on the USS Cole in Yemen.
* Congressional Investigations: Mr. Kelley was responsible for the
Department of Justice’s investigation into Congressional staffers’
improper access of documents from the minority office of the Senate
Judiciary Committee.
Mr. Kelley clerked for Chief United States District Judge T.F. Gilroy Daly
in the District of Connecticut. He is a graduate of New York Law School, where
he is now an adjunct professor, and of the College of William & Mary. After
college and through law school, he served as a police officer in East Hampton,
New York.
