Pepper Hamilton LLP announced that
Michael S. Olsan, a commercial litigator focusing on complex insurance
coverage and reinsurance disputes, has joined the firm as a partner in the
Philadelphia office.
“Michael has an excellent reputation representing insurers in large-scale
coverage and reinsurance matters,” said Robert E. Heideck, Pepper’s
executive partner. “He’s a terrific addition to our already strong
insurance and reinsurance practice, and we are delighted to welcome him to
Pepper.”
Mr. Olsan joins Pepper from White and Williams LLP in Philadelphia, where he
was a partner.
Mr. Olsan represents major property and casualty insurance carriers in
litigation against corporate policyholders in federal, bankruptcy and state
courts around the country, as well as in arbitration, mediation and other
alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. The coverage disputes often
arise out of the insured’s environmental, asbestos and mass tort liabilities
and involve allegations of insurer bad faith. He also has represented a
multi-line insurance carrier in reinsurance arbitrations concerning its
surety bond book of business.
In addition to representing clients in litigation, he counsels insurance
clients on claims handling issues, in an effort to avoid litigation between
the carrier and the insured.
Mr. Olsan is a graduate of Franklin & Marshall College (B.A. 1986) and
Syracuse University College of Law (J.D. 1989). He is a member of the
Pennsylvania and New Jersey bars.
Pepper’s Insurance and Reinsurance Practice Group provides advice and
assistance to clients in the insurance and reinsurance industry. Lawyers in
the group understand the operations of insurance companies and other
participants in the industry, and apply that knowledge to the advantage of
their clients.
