Russell McVeagh has been designated as the official legal partner for the inaugural Rainbow Games Auckland 2024, following its Gender Tick approval earlier in the year and in a key move towards making itself a gender firm of choice.
The collaboration underscores the shared commitment of both entities towards diversity and inclusivity, as well as their dedication to honoring and celebrating the LGBTQI+ community and its allies.
Will Irving, a partner at the firm said the games mark a significant milestone for LGBTQI+ communities.
“Creating a brand-new sporting event is a substantial endeavor, and we are thrilled to unite with one of New Zealand’s esteemed legal firms to curate a memorable and meaningful Rainbow Games,” stated Tom Leonard, the event director of Rainbow Games 2024.
The Games are scheduled to take place from April 5th to 11th, 2024, bringing together athletes from diverse backgrounds and identities across 14 different sports categories.
The firm emphasized that partnering with Rainbow Games aligns with its objective to promote the growth and success of the LGBTQI+ community, both within and beyond the realm of sports.
“Advocating for inclusiveness and well-being are pivotal aspects of how we provide support to our team members and communities at Russell McVeagh, making the Rainbow Games an ideal match for us,” Irving remarked.
In March 2023, the firm was granted the Advanced GenderTick. This includes the rare step of publicly disclosing information about gender and ethnicity pay gaps, positioning Russell McVeagh among a select few legal firms to do so.
