CHICAGO, 4 October 2004 LAWFUEL – Best law news, attorney, law firm, legal, news & research – Brandi McCoy, a Piper Rudnick LLP 2004 summer associate, has received a Women’s Bar Foundation Scholarship, the firm has announced.

The scholarship was formally awarded to her at the Women’s Bar Foundation’s 39th Annual Scholarship Award Luncheon in Chicago on September 23. When Ms. McCoy took the podium, she received a spontaneous standing ovation from the numerous Piper Rudnick attorneys in attendance. Her first words in acknowledging her award: “Thank you, Piper Rudnick.”

“We are absolutely delighted that the Women’s Bar Foundation has recognized Brandi with this notable honor,” said Allen Ginsburg, managing partner of Piper Rudnick’s Chicago office. “Those of us who worked with her this summer know her as an insightful, hard working, and intelligent young person. She has a great career before her.”

Ms. McCoy is now in her third year at DePaul University College of Law. She has accepted the firm’s offer to return as an associate after her graduation.

She is pursuing a joint J.D. and MBA degree at DePaul and ranks in the top 5 percent of her class. Ms. McCoy is an editor of the DePaul Law Review and the DePaul Business and Commercial Law Journal. She is also a member of the Business Law Society and Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity.

Ms. McCoy is the recipient of CALI awards—given to the student with the highest grade in a class–for Constitutional Process I, Legal Writing II, and Contracts II and was named Dean’s Top Scholar. She graduated summa cum laude from Monmouth College. She has volunteered in a Colorado homeless shelter and in a meal program for people with terminal illnesses.

Judith Schuch, an associate in Piper Rudnick’s Litigation practice group, was co-chair of the Women’s Bar Foundation’s 39th Annual Scholarship Award Luncheon. Ms. Schuch, a member of the board of directors of the foundation, herself received a WBF scholarship in 1999. Piper Rudnick is also a benefactor of the event.
