Rudy Giuliani’s Lawyer
Rudy Giuliani’s attorney, Joseph Sibley, has received prominence for his role in the major defamation loss incurred by his client, despite attempting to mitigate Giuliani’s role in the defamation lawsuit involving Georgia election workers, focusing blame on Gateway Pundit, a St. Louis-based website.
Sibley attempted to minimize Giuliani’s role in the alleged election-rigging in a ploy that failed badly.
Sibley argued that the site was chiefly responsible for spreading conspiracy theories that led to threats against the workers, Ruby Freeman and Wandrea “Shaye” Moss. Despite his efforts, the jury ruled against Giuliani, ordering him to pay substantial damages.
Who Is Joe Sibley?
Texas-born Joseph Sibley earned a degree in philosophy before studying law and graduating from Harvard Law School.
A former US Army Ranger, his firm bio says he is “revered” by his clients – no mention of Giuliani’s views – and that he is an avid poker fan and a Christian.
His work from his law firm Camara and Sibley has seen him defending contentious and often high profile cases, usually being commercial and intellectual property disputes.
The Giuliani case is the one that has propelled him into national headlines as the former beleaguered New York mayor and Trump insider faces ruin through the wild allegations made about alleged election rigging.
Sibley has taken different legal defense actions under Texas law involving their equivalent to the Anti-SLAPP legislation, the Texas Citizens’ Participation Act.
His defense of Giuliani has seen many detractors portray Sibley as an agent of disinformation and disruption rather than a defender of free speech and the person who was once an American hero after the 911 terror attack on the Twin Towers.
In his closing to the jury Sibley said “This is a man who did great things.”
“If he hasn’t been so great lately, I want you to judge him by the entire character of who he is.”
