International law firm Denton Wilde Sapte has been appointed by The World Bank as legal consultants to the Ministry of Economic Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan in connection with the privatisation of Baku Gas following a competitive tender.

The tender win is within the framework of The World Bank’s second project of technical assistance for institutional development in Azerbaijan. The firm will be advising the Ministry of Economic Development of Azerbaijan throughout the privatisation process and will assist in negotiations with bidders.

Energy, Transport & Infrastructure partner David Tennant will lead the Denton Wilde Sapte team, with support from CIS specialist Elena Kirillova. Denton Wilde Sapte will work with BM Law Firm, one of Azerbaijan’s leading law firms, which has a long track record in advising on privatisation matters.

David Tennant commented: “This is an exciting project and we are delighted to have won the tender in the face of fierce competition from other UK and US firms. Our unrivalled energy practice and commitment to the region were obviously of key importance to the Ministry”.
