Mike Piazza joins DLA Piper’s Litigation practice in Los Angeles

April 8, 2015 – DLA Piper announced today that Mike Piazza has joined the firm’s Litigation practice as a partner in the Los Angeles office.

Piazza focuses his practice on securities and white collar litigation, defending individuals and companies before US regulators, the US Department of Justice, state attorneys general, and foreign regulators. Earlier in his career, Piazza served as regional trial counsel for the Los Angeles office of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, where he was involved in numerous securities fraud cases as the lead trial attorney. He is experienced with internal SEC policies concerning the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and has led and coordinated internal investigations on various compliance matters.

“Mike’s significant litigation background and extensive trial experience with the SEC will further strengthen our ability to serve clients in complex securities and enforcement matters,” said James Brogan, co-chair of DLA Piper’s US Litigation practice. “He has a deep understanding of how to curb risky behavior and avoid criminal exposure that corporations and financial institutions may face before regulators.”

Piazza is the most recent addition to the firm’s US Litigation practice, which has recently welcomed Linda Smith in Los Angeles, Justice Henry duPont Ridgely in Wilmington, and Amor Esteban in San Francisco.

“Mike’s arrival underscores the latest in a fine array of legal talent joining our L.A. offices, particularly litigators who are skilled at handling high-level, bet-the-company issues,” said Perrie Weiner, co-managing partner of DLA Piper’s Los Angeles offices. “He has a strong reputation in Southern California and will be a vital part of the continued growth of the firm’s hedge fund, public company and FCPA practices on the West Coast, nationally and internationally.”

Piazza joins DLA Piper from Greenberg Traurig LLP. He received his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School and his B.A. from Carleton College.
