Law Firm Management - Foley Hoag Launches New, Extended U.S. Parental Leave Policy Offering 18 Weeks Paid to Any CaregiverFoley Hoag LLP has launched a new parental leave policy for its United States-based legal personnel. The new policy provides paid parental leave for up to 18 weeks to all parents, regardless of whether one is the primary caregiver or not. Previously, parents designated as a non-primary caregiver were offered 4 weeks paid leave. This benefit is overseen by Adrienne Ellman, partner and co-chair of Foley Hoag’s Private Equity Transactions Group and Foley Hoag’s Reduced Work Schedule and Leave Coordinator.

“We are pleased to be able to offer this expanded benefit to our hardworking, dedicated, and talented personnel at Foley Hoag,” said Ellman. “It is an honor to be a part of a firm that truly believes in supporting our diverse workforce and is at the forefront of parental leave policies.”

Ellman continued, “We are expanding our paid parental leave and including in it any parent, not just the primary caregiver. We anticipate that this will have a significant positive impact on our attorneys and legal personnel.”

Foley Hoag believes this new policy is an important step to help new parents spend time with their child(ren) when they arrive and to achieve a better work/life balance. This expanded policy further allows new parents to take the leave at any point during the 12 months following the birth or adoption of their child(ren). All legal personnel who take paid parental leave will receive 100 percent of their base compensation.

“New parents shouldn’t have to make the choice between family and career,” said Kenneth Leonetti, co-managing partner at Foley Hoag. “We are committed to supporting our colleagues throughout the various stages of their lives and this new policy provides a great deal of flexibility to all caregivers.”

I guess that’s one way to distract attention from the fact that Foley Hoag hasn’t matched the new Milbank/Simpson/Cravath scale.
