The Legal Thought Leader: Clive Elliot

Patent attorney Clive Elliott has transcended his role as a leading IP lawyer to become a thought and legal leader, grappling with some of the biggest issues we face today.  No mean feat for an IP lawyer-turned-artist-turned-author.

A former Bar Association president his work as both an artist and an author and writer, particularly regarding issues of wellbeing in the profession, have elevated his role as a person of influence.

Raised in South Africa he came to New Zealand 40 years ago and becoming a partner at patent law firm Baldwin Shelton Waters.

His book, “The Power of Wellbeing: A blueprint for rebuilding the social fabric and reimagining an inclusive society” a book that sought to ‘join the dots’ and explain how to make sense of the polarisation and social issues we face today, requiring ‘repurposing’ of current institutions and thinking.

He is a co-author of the Lexis Nexis loose-leaf texts: Copyright and Design; and Patents and Trade Marks and has also been a lecturer at both the Department of Law and Department of Commercial Law at Auckland University
