DePuy Hip Lawsuits Move Forward This Week
The federal court overseeing the DePuy hip replacement lawsuits pending against DePuy Orthopaedics is holding a status conference this week. Numerous federal lawsuits seeking to hold DePuy Orthopaedics responsible for damages suffered by people who were implanted with defective DePuy hips were consolidated before the Honorable David A. Katz of the United States District Court of the Northern District of Ohio. According to Felecia L. Stern, partner at the consumer injury law firm Bernstein Liebhard LLP, the purpose of the hearing is for Judge Katz to decide which lawyers will serve on the plaintiffs’ steering committee.
The Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (“MDL”) transferred the cases to Judge Katz for pre-trial purposes, which will allow Judge Katz to decide common issues that affect all persons who have been injured by the defective DePuy hip implant (http://www.consumerinjurylawyers.com/DePuy/mdl-decision). According to Ms. Stern, who is in charge of the firm’s DePuy hip litigation,“anyone who has been injured by defective DePuy hips can be comforted that the MDL process is a particularly appropriate and efficient method for resolving DePuy hip lawsuits.” Consolidation ensures that none of the cases filed against DePuy Orthopaedics – and Ms. Stern expects that “thousands of new cases will be filed in the weeks and months ahead” – will be subject to inconsistent court rulings.
Ms. Stern is actively investigating and litigating cases on behalf of Bernstein Liebhard’s clients who have undergone DePuy hip implant surgery. Since DePuy was forced to recall its defective hip implant in August, Bernstein Liebhard has provided a wealth of consumer information concerning the defective DePuy hip implant on its website, consumerinjurylawyers.com. If you or a loved one have had hip replacement surgery and have been implanted with a defective DePuy hip, you may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other injuries.
