Legal Education – University of London – 12 February 2010 KEY APPOINTMENT FOR LAWS PROGRAMME: PROF. JENNY HAMILTON

12 February 2010 – LawFuel.com – Financial services law expert Professor Jenny Hamilton has joined the University of London External System as Director of the highly successful Undergraduate Laws Programme (EULP).

Professor Hamilton brings almost 20 years of university teaching experience to the position, 13 of which have been with the University of Strathclyde Law School in Scotland. At Strathclyde, Professor Hamilton held a number of positions including Senior Lecturer, Director of Teaching, and Vice Dean of Law, Arts and Social Sciences.

Widely published, Professor Hamilton has served on several influential panels, including the Consumer Panel of the UK Financial Services Authority and the Scottish Consumer Council. She was also a member of the council of Shared Interest Society Ltd, a co-operative lending society that grants loans on fair trade terms to third world producers.

Professor Jonathan Kydd, Dean of the University of London External System, said he was delighted with the appointment: “Professor Hamilton clearly has a great deal to offer, in particular her experience in developing study programmes and her legal expertise and research in commercial law.

“I am confident that Professor Hamilton will draw on her educational experience to further extend the reach of our Laws Programme, which currently has 16,000 students around the world.”

Professor Hamilton said: “I am looking forward to working with the Laws Committee and the Colleges to consolidate the existing markets we operate in. We will also continue to deliver a high quality programme that is relevant in meeting the needs of our broad-based community of students and other stakeholders.”

Professor Hamilton graduated with an LLB from the University of Adelaide and worked as a barrister and solicitor in Australia, before gaining an LLM from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. She also holds a number of teaching qualifications. Her current research interests include commercial law and financial services regulation.
