London, April 30 2007 LAWFUEL – The Law Newswire– Dewey Ballantine, a leading international law firm, announced today that it is adding three lateral partners to its London office. Lee Parker, Carlo Kostka, and Alastair Crawford will start with the firm by the beginning of June.
Commenting on the arrivals, Fred Gander, managing partner of the London office, said: “This is an exciting time for the London office. It’s a major accomplishment to attract three Magic Circle partners of such a high caliber at the same time. We’re looking to push forward in London as well as on the continent on three fronts simultaneously, all of which play to the firm’s strengths – finance, litigation and growth.”
Lee Parker will play a primary role in growing the Dewey Ballantine English law practice, as well as being a senior partner in its London capital markets group. His business development roles will include, among others, networking, further developing investment bank relationships, mentoring associates, and increasing the number of lateral hires for the office. He joins from Global Legal Search where he was a partner, responsible for placing partners in major law firms. In addition, Lee brings extensive capital markets experience as a 10-year partner at Linklaters, where he helped to build both its US practice and, subsequently, its Madrid practice. His extensive investment banking contacts include JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank and Merrill Lynch.
Capital markets partner Carlo Kostka joins Dewey Ballantine from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where he was a partner in the U.S. securities law group. Since 1997, he has been based in Italy, where he was co-head of the securities law practice, and has worked on Italian and CEE matters, as well as matters from German-speaking countries. He acts for major banks and corporations on equity and debt offerings, as well as general US securities law matters. The firm will draw on his Italian connections and Italian language skills to service the excellent Italian corporate and financial institution contacts that we have in London, Milan and Rome.
The arrival of Alastair Crawford sees the office launch a UK litigation practice. Mr. Crawford, who has been a partner with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer since 1991, will also work closely with Robert de By, head of the firm’s global arbitration practice, on developing the firm’s European arbitration practice. Crawford’s work covers major litigation and arbitration, regulatory investigations and proceedings for clients in sectors such as: financial services, pharmaceutical, telecommunications, and retail.
