Top Lawyers – Seven Holland & Knight Partners Recognized as Top Lawyers by Washingtonian Magazine

Whayne Quin, a partner in the firm’s Real Estate Section, was recognized as one of the Top 30 Attorneys in the area.

This is the fifth time Washingtonian Magazine has compiled the Top Lawyers list, which covers 28 legal specialties and represents approximately one percent of attorneys in the area. The lawyers were gathered through peer recommendations of 1,000 attorneys who were asked to identify the best in their field and who they would hire to represent them in different areas.

Leigh-Alexandra Basha – Estate and Probate

A member of Holland & Knight’s Private Wealth Services Group, Basha devotes her practice to her clients’ needs in the areas of domestic and international taxation, estate planning and administration, business law and pre-marital agreements. She is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and head of the firms’ International Estate Planning Practice. Robert Glenn – Real Estate

A member of the firm’s Real Estate Section, he practices primarily in the area of commercial real estate and has substantial experience in the sale and purchase of real estate, real estate financing, leasing, workouts, foreclosures and real estate-based bankruptcies. His practice focuses on the representation of financial institutions in real estate-based lending including John Hancock Life Insurance Company, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and New York Life Insurance Company. Glenn also has extensive experience in representing financial institutions in commercial asset-based lending.

Whayne Quin – Real Estate

A member of Holland & Knight’s Real Estate Section, Quin practices in the area of municipal law with a special focus on land use, zoning, urban planning, building and housing codes, historic preservation, environmental, transportation, urban and related real estate matters. His clients have included educational institutions, non-profit organizations, builders, developers, financial institutions, chanceries, international and national agencies and property owners. Nationally, Quin has been a consultant to the private sector in the fields of land use, historic preservation, housing and building related matters. The Washingtonian stated Quin is a legend among his peers. He is active in his community and has been involved with Children’s Hospital, Safe Kids Worldwide and National Building Museum, among others.

Michael Ruane – Real Estate

A member of Holland & Knight’s Real Estate Section, he practices in the real property area emphasizing commercial real estate financing, acquisitions, sales, property management and leasing, partnerships and joint ventures, lender liability and loan workouts. His practice includes representation of institutional investors, such as life insurance companies, pension funds and banks, real estate developers and others in connection with their real estate projects and investments in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and beyond. Ruane’s practice also includes work in the hospitality industry, including hotel management agreements and the development, sale and acquisition of hotel properties. His practice also has involved advising clients regarding loan and partnership restructures, deed in lieu transactions, foreclosures, and single-asset (real estate) bankruptcies, both contested and consensual, and monitoring and advising on a variety of real estate related litigation and workout arrangements in connection with defaulted transactions.

Alby Salaman – Estate and Probate

Salaman is chair of Holland & Knight’s Mid-Atlantic Region Private Wealth Services Group and practices in the areas of estate planning, estates, tax, and premarital agreements. He has more than 20 years of experience in designing sophisticated estate plans and saving taxes for professional athletes nationwide and wealthy families in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area. In addition to the Washingtonian Magazine, Salaman has been recognized in several publications as a leading lawyer in this area of the law.

Charles Welch Tiedemann – Real Estate

National Chair of the firm’s Real Estate Section, Tiedemann has more than 25 years of commercial real estate finance, development and leasing experience. He represents institutional clients, including investment advisors, pension funds, insurance companies, banks and foreign investors, as well as developers, tenants and syndicators. The complex transactions Tiedemann handles include acquisitions, sales, joint venture formations, construction, permanent and mezzanine loans, ground leases, re-capitalizations and sale-leasebacks. He also has extensive experience with workouts and foreclosures. Tiedemann’s practice includes retail, office, apartment, hotel, condominium and industrial properties.

Charles D. Tobin – Media

Chair of Holland & Knight’s National Media Practice Team, Tobin is a former journalist and has appeared in state and federal courts around the country representing the media in libel and privacy lawsuits at both the trial and appellate levels. He also conducts pre-publication review for newsrooms and provides advice on subpoenas, access, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), reporter’s privilege, and all other First Amendment matters relating to the editorial content of newspapers and broadcasts. In addition, he counsels business clients on commercial disparagement, unfair competition and Lanham Act issues.
