Cantabrians will be consulted on what they want to see in the terms of reference for the independent inquiry into EQC, Minister Megan Woods has announced.
“The Government is working hard to establish an independent inquiry into EQC and the experience of Cantabrians after the earthquakes. Officials have provided advice on what should be in the terms of reference for this inquiry, but we want to take the time to hear directly from people in Canterbury as well.
“We’re launching an online form where people can answer questions about what they most want to see covered, share their experiences and make suggestions about the review.

“We know that this won’t be the last natural disaster EQC has to deal with and we want to make sure all of the lessons from the Canterbury earthquakes are being learned so that the system is better for people in the future.
“I’ve spoken to hundreds of people who have faced difficult issues with EQC. They wanted to know that they are heard, that the system is changing, and that no one else will have to go through what they did.
“This inquiry is our opportunity to make that happen, so it’s appropriate the people of Canterbury get the chance to have their say,” says Megan Woods.
